I can see represented participant directly and we feel some sort of involvement. This picture gives some awareness about smoking. And if viewer is a smoker, they will feel uncomfortable and think about quitting the smoking and their health.

Indirect & Horizontal angle & Oblique

I can see represented participant indirectly and we feel some sort of detachment between our own and represented participant in this picture. This picture does not give a strong message to viewer. I know that what want to tell to us but it is not powerful and does not lead to our participation.

Angles

Angles

Horizontal Angle VS Vertical Angle

- Horizontal Angle : I think, horizontal angle gives a feeling like a peace and viewer can feel comfortable from this horizontal angle picture.

- Vertical Angle : I think, vertical angle gives a feeling like a power and pressure from the picture or represented participant. Viewer can feel from this picture that the represented participant(tree) is stronger than viewer.

Like this, we can feel different from each angle.

White Rabbit art theme is ...
White Rabbit Gallery is a Chinese contemporary art. Most of the artists in the collection were born and reside in China. And Works in the White Rabbit Collection include drawings, oil paintings, ink paintings, Flash video, photography, pixel art, sculptures, and installation art. I think, It is a small china world.

My favorite piece of art is ...

My favorite piece of art is "Beyond Satisfaction".

When I saw this art, actually it was very disgusting. But when I heard about the art work at full length from guide, It was really impressive. This art work describes the consumer society critically. There are many thing in fat character's body such as jewelry, pearl, lips and something like that. It means that people's greed and desire. This art work made me think about what is really important to me and just think about myself whether I spent my life in pursuit of appearance.

Born:
1972, Miaoming, Guangdong Province. Lives and works in Beijing Chen Fei is a Chinese
artist whose subjects are grotesque and disproportionate creatures, which have some features typical of classic kawaii, the pinkish complexion, the plump figure, the full lips and the small limbs, but that it is difficult to say that they are kawaii.

My least favorite piece of art is ...

Jing Zhiyong's works look like kindergarten paintings. It was funny and interesting. Also I could understand little bit the artist's perspective and wit. I know, the paintings reflect himself as a childhood, acting out a mix of childhood memories and dreams like a curiosity woman's underwear, hero and protect others. But It did not give a strong impression. Because I could not understand young boy's mind fully and connect with this painting what he want to tell. just want to talk his childhood and funny memories?

Born: Yantai City, Shandong, 1986. Lives and works in Beijing

When I was at the White Rabbit Gallery, I felt ...

Actually, I do not know about chinese art and I thought It will be very different. But when I was in there, I could understand many art works easily and commune with that even if we have different nationality, language and culture. So I felt that "Art is basically the same the world over." And the gallery art was really fresh and fun such as flash animations , video and some sculptures.

What is a Gaze?

  • Gaze is...
to fix the eyes in a steady intent look often with eagerness or studious attention.

  • Direct gaze
: is a demand by the subject who looks at us demanding our gaze.

This image and the viewer create a direct connection as the image looks directly at the viewer. A message is strongly conveyed, as the viewer becomes an active participant in a relationship between image and interpretor. Also, something is demanded from the image of the viewer.
  • Indirect gaze

: is an offer by the spectator where we initiate the gaze and the subject is not aware of this.

An indirect gaze offers the viewer to interact with the image, but does not give a blatant meaning or gesture to enter the frame. No immediate reaction is demanded from the image, but the meaning can still be persuasive, although are often free of emotion or neutral in sentiment, but can still be informative.

Proxemics

We like to keep our distance from others and there are very specific social rules about how close we can go to others in particular situations.

This social distance is also known as body space and comfort zone and the use of this space is called proxemics.

Social distances

The social distances here are approximate, of course and will vary with people. But they are still a good general rule. Hall (1966) identified four zones that are common for Americans:

  • Intimate distance: extends roughly 18 inches (46 cm) from the individual and is reserved for family, pets and very close friends. Displays of affection and comforting are commonly conducted within this space. The only strangers an individual typically accepts within his or her intimate space are health care professionals.
  • Personal distance: extends 1.5 to 4 feet (0.46–1.2 m) is reserved for friends and acquaintances. A handshake will typically place strangers at least 2 to 4 feet (0.61–1.2 m) apart, preserving the personal distance.
  • Social distance: extends from about 4 to 12 feet (1.2–3.7 m) and is used for formal, business and other impersonal interactions such as meeting a client.
  • Public Space: extends more than 12 feet (3.7 m) and is not guarded. Secret Service agents will commonly attempt to ensure 12 feet (3.7 m) of open space around dignitaries and high ranking officials.
(*Information and Image from wikipedia)

Think of these four categories of space as concentric circles !!!

starting out away from me and becoming progressively closer as someone move closer to me. The actual size of each circle differs from person to person... that’s what makes this subject so interesting and so relevant to everyday life.

Participants_My work

- I tried to express about my feeling. Everyday I bring with USB because I need to want keep all my stuff. It is an other brain in my school life. But sometime I can feel from other subject.

Can you see Hello Kitty's Face?

Maybe YES!!! I always see that face. The character is same every time, every day. But I feel different every time from it. When I feel sad with many assessments, The character looks like little bit sad and When I finished assessment and feel happy, The character looks like happy to me!!!
Every time I feel different with my mind and The character's face is same with me everyday.

I want to represent about me by connecting with that object.

IMPRESSIONISM

I tried to make a impressionism art work by using spring picture.
I used effect sponge (Brush Size 10, Definition 16, Softness 1) and changed Curves
for hi-contrast and vibrant colours.

Do you like Impressionism?t

The Skiff (La Yole)" c.1875.
Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

What is Impressionism...

A French 19th century art movement which marked a momentous break from tradition in European painting. The Impressionists incorporated new scientific research into the physics of colour to achieve a more exact representation of colour and tone.

The sudden change in the look of these paintings was brought about by a change in methodology: applying paint in small touches of pure colour rather than broader strokes, and painting out of doors to catch a particular fleeting impression of colour and light. The result was to emphasise the artist's perception of the subject matter as much as the subject itself.

Impressionist art is a style in which the artist captures the image of an object as someone would see it if they just caught a glimpse of it. They paint the pictures with a lot of color and most of their pictures are outdoor scenes. Their pictures are very bright and vibrant. The artists like to capture their images without detail but with bold colors. Some of the greatest impressionist artists were Edouard Manet, Camille Pissaro, Edgar Degas, Alfred Sisley, Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot and Pierre Auguste Renoir.

Manet influenced the development of impressionism. He painted everyday objects. Pissaro and Sisley painted the French countryside and river scenes. Degas enjoyed painting ballet dancers and horse races. Morisot painted women doing everyday things. Renoir loved to show the effect of sunlight on flowers and figures. Monet was interested in subtle changes in the atmosphere.

While the term Impressionist covers much of the art of this time, there were smaller movements within it, such as Pointillism, Art Nouveau and Fauvism.

Impressionism artists...

Édouard Manet, sometimes called the first impressionist, demonstrated that light could be shown in painting. The various impressionists developed individual styles but, as a group, benefited from their common experiments in color. Claude Monet painted many series of studies, each done at different times of the day and in different seasons. Camille Pissarro used a subdued palette and concentrated equally on the effects of light and on the structure of forms. Edgar Degas caught the fleeting moment, especially in ballet and horse-racing scenes. Pierre Auguste Renoir preferred to paint the female form. Berthe Morisot painted subtle landscapes that gained strength from brushwork rather than color.

Do you like Impressionism?
Yes! I like Impressionism.

I like impressionism because I believe it is a beautiful way in which the artist captures life on canvas in a particular way. I think, specially the use of contrasting color and juxtaposing bright give a dramatic effect on a painting.

Participants

1) Viewer - People who like masterpiece.

2) Producer - Paul Camille Guigou

3) Represented Participants -Woman who does the laundry.

- This composition of the painting gives some mystery to all who see it. Because viewer can see only her back and Producer does not give any information about represented participants in that painting. As a result, viewer can imagine according to individual fancy.
